Sun Damage: How to Reverse the Effects and Protect Your Skin

February 21, 2023 2 min read

When it comes to care for our skin, one of the biggest concerns is sun damage. Here at our medspa, we understand how difficult it can be to protect your skin from the sun all year long, especially when you live in the coastal area like that of the Jersey Shore. While sun damage can’t always be reversed, there are ways to help reduce the effects and keep your skin looking its best.

The first thing to remember when trying to reverse the effects of sun damage is to always wear sunscreen. Sunscreen not only helps protect from ultraviolet light, but also helps prevent wrinkles, age spots, and rough skin. It’s important to use a sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher with broad-spectrum sun protection factors, such as UVA and UVB. Be sure to apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes before any sun exposure and to reapply every two hours for optimal protection.

In addition to applying sunscreen, it’s also important to wear protective clothing when possible. This includes wearing hats, long sleeves, and clothing with a UPF rating of 50 or higher. If you are swimming in saltwater or a pool, be sure to wear a swim shirt to get extra protection from the sun’s UV rays. Make sure to wear sunglasses and apply Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) sunscreen to your face.

To help reduce the signs of sun damage, you should regularly exfoliate your skin to get rid of dead skin cells. This can help reduce the appearance of age spots and wrinkles that occur due to sun damage. Regular exfoliation can also help reduce the risk of acne and blackheads.

Now that you’re equipped with the right tools to help protect your skin, you can make sure you’re taking the necessary steps to prevent any further sun damage.
