Is food causing me to break out?

Making small lifestyle changes can make a big difference in managing acne. Not only is overall health important, but the aspect of your health is reflective on your skin. To limit the frequency of dead skin build up in your pores, try to be mindful of what could be a factor in contributing to the cause of your acne.

We try to bring awareness to our clients of several pore clogging foods they might want to avoid. Our suggestion includes a “Try to Reduce” model which doesn’t say you need to cut them out completely, but simply moderate some food types. Even though the goal is to control acne, you’ll begin to feel better as a whole by making these small adjustments to your lifestyle.

When it comes to the types of foods to “Try to Reduce”, some of these foods, such as peanuts, have a high count of androgens which can be a big acne causer. Other foods including:

  • Iodized Salt
  • Milk
  • Cheese
  • Soy
  • Whey
  • Seafood
  • Kelp
  • Certain Oils (Peanut, Corn, Canola)

Not everyone gets acne from all of them, however, it’s been proven that most acne sufferers have the biggest problem with those kinds of foods. Be on the lookout for vitamins with iodides, like Biotin and B12, because they’re also responsible for breakouts. If you’re looking to identify the food triggers that are causing your acne, a Blended Skin Acne Specialist will work with you to find acceptable substitutions for you.
